The Bike is excellent. All the welds looks good the fit and finish of the frame is excellent. All the parts went on with no issues of misalignment or anything that makes assembly a pain.
The Stickers are garbage, the stickers are made to fit the frame perfectly, which in turn means they have to be perfectly installed, mine were not. So I had to spend an hour removing them. The Canfield badge on the head tube was not curved and stuck to the frame. It was stuck in the middle with the sides flared out. I had to take a rubber mallet and beat them down so it looks ok. So the worst part of the bike is anything that represents Canfield.
Nit Pick. All the drive train was listed as SRAM X01 however the chain was not , it does not list the chain on the website however I assumed that if everything is SRAM the chain would match. Also I ordered an all silver and black bike and they sent me a gold chain. OCD kicking in. Lucky for me I screwed the chain sizing up and had to order a new chain any way.
Other issue is the water bottle mounts inside the frame on a small are about useless for a bottle. The bolts on the bottom tube are too high up to fit a bottle and the seat tube is too short. to fit one there. I think i have a 560ml bottle so its not huge. They should remove the seat stay bolts on the small and move the bottom tube bolts down to allow it to be useful.
The shipping process took about a week and a half as they have to order all the parts. They were honest and upfront as to what was going on. Estimates for how long things would take to come together were all honest and close to correct. I ordered the Pro build and they shipped the wrong wheels. I contacted them and they told me they would ship the correct wheels out on Monday and they did exactly that. Customer service is why you are getting a Canfield. You are talking to real people that can walk out and look in their warehouse and tell you what they have an don't have.
I asked if they could install the head set cups as I do not have a press and they did so with no extra charge. The offered to install the bottom bracket as well. They are willing to assist in anyway that is reasonable and you only need to ask for that help if you are getting a bike from them.
Lance Canfield called me directly to talk about Crank length and chain ring size. After speaking with him I decided on 150 cranks and a oval 32 tooth chain ring. The box came with a 28 tooth round chain ring. I just installed it as I didn't really want to wait 3 more days for them to send the other thing. I have no doubt they would have corrected it if I asked but, it does show a lack of follow through from the owner.
Michelle is great and her customer service is what makes this entire buying a bike process a win. Actually everyone I spoke too gave great customer service.
Reference: I am 5'6" with a 28 inch inseam. short legs short arms long torso and the small fits great.
Other bikes on my short list were Banshee Enigma , Ibis Ripley
Decided i wanted to learn the limits of a hard tail before getting something more advanced. Contacted Banshee with questions about Parts that fit their frames and the response was very basic and not helpful at all.
Tips for new builders from a Noob.
1. Do not waste money on Amazon bleed kits I wasted 50 dollars on kits that do not fit and then ordered a TRP Advanced Blead kit for 99. I could have just ordered the Park Tools bleed kit for 155.
2. Chain sizing all over the place is Largest Cog and Chain ring add two links. This is wrong. Found the answer on Park Tools video. Hardtail with SRAM drive train is add 4 links. Those two extra lings are the difference in being able to tune the drive train.
3. You need a cable cutter, I did not try side cutters (No way in hell side cutters are going to do anything) but i assumed my big ass cutters that will cut some pretty big gauge wire would work with no issue and they did not. Get a Bike specific cutter. You need a very tight cutter to cut them smoothly.
4 Canfield Cranks are self extracting so you do not need a crank puller
5. I used a power towner to set the bike on to build it. If you do not have a way of suspending the bike above the ground you should get a bike stand as it would have been a nightmare to try and build this up on the ground with no support.
I would buy from Canfield again not because they are perfect but because they care and it shows.
