Grand Junction's The Daily Sentinel recently featured Canfield Bikes in an article on economic diversification in Colorado's Grand Valley.
The article, "Grand Valley learning from past mistakes by diversifying economy," examines the area's historic economic dependency on the oil and natural gas industries and a recent focus on attracting new businesses in hopes of reducing the local economy's vulnerability to the boom and bust cycles of big oil.
“As anybody knows, we’ve relied on extraction for over 100 years,” Robin Brown, executive director of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP) says in the article. “We like oil and gas, but we don’t want to feel the effects when it leaves.”
“It’s centrally located near the mountains and Moab, it’s perfect. It’s like a ski town for mountain biking.”
- Lance Canfield
Canfield Bikes relocated to Fruita in January of 2020, a decision supported in part by incentives offered by GJEP.
"Canfield Bikes...is a business that fits perfectly into the Western Slope landscape," said The Daily Sentinel.
